America and praised for her “luminous singing” by the New York Times, rising
American soprano Emalie Savoy
is becoming widely recognized for both the lyrical beauty of her instrument
and the unique depth and insight she brings to her performances. She has
performed to great acclaim in both operatic and concert repertoire and will
make her Metropolitan Opera debut during the 2011-2012 season as Kristina in
Leoš
Janáček’s
The Makropulos Case. Recently, she was the recipient of a 2011 George
London Foundation Grand Prize and was awarded Second Prize in the Gerda
Lissner Foundation’s 2011 International Vocal Competition.
Currently a member of the Lindemann Young
Artist Development Program at The Metropolitan Opera, Ms. Savoy recently
debuted with the New York Philharmonic in Janáček’s The Cunning Little
Vixen, conducted by Maestro Alan Gilbert. Highlights of her 2010-2011
season included the role of Socrate in Satie’s Socrate with Maestro
James Levine conducting the MET Chamber Ensemble in Zankel Hall at Carnegie
Hall; a collaboration with cellist Yo-Yo Ma, dancer Damian Woetzel, and the
Silk Road Ensemble in Alice Tully Hall as part of The World Science Festival
and on New York City’s SummerStage concert series in Central Park; soprano
soloist in both Mendelssohn’s Elijah and Mendelssohn’s Paulus,
led by Maestro Kent Tritle with The Oratorio Society of New York in Stern
Auditorium at Carnegie Hall; featured guest soloist with Voices of Ascension
at the Church of St. Mary the Virgin in New York’s Times Square; the
title role of Ariadne in Strauss’ Ariadne auf Naxos, conducted by
Maestro Christoph von Dohnányi at the 2010 Tanglewood Music Center; and a
performance of Samuel Barber’s Knoxille: Summer of 1915 with the
Juilliard Orchestra, conducted by Maestro Jeffrey Milarsky.
In addition to her
forthcoming debut at The Metropolitan Opera, engagements for the 2011-2012
season include soprano soloist in Handel’s Messiah in Stern
Auditorium at Carnegie Hall with the Oratorio Society of New York in
December 2011; featured vocalist in collaboration with pianist Nathan
Brandwein on the Marilyn Horne Foundation’s
The Song Continues Festival
annual recital in January 2012 in Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall; and the title
role in Gluck’s Armide as part of a co-production between the
Lindemann Young Artist Program and The Juilliard School in February 2012.
Ms. Savoy’s operatic highlights include
performances as Countess in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro; Erste Dame
in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte; Giulietta in Offenbach’s Les Contes
d’Hoffmann; Madame Lidoine in Poulenc’s Dialogues des Carmélites;
Susan B. Anthony in Virgil Thomson’s The Mother of Us All; Doriclea
in Cavalli’s La Doriclea; Norah in William Shield’s The Poor
Soldier; and Anne Sexton in Conrad Susa’s Transformations.
She has also been seen on stage at the New York Society for Ethical Culture,
Mohonk Summer Festival of the Arts, and the Chautauqua Institution. In
addition, she has appeared with The New York Catholic Chorale, Musicians of
Ma’alwyck, and the Southwest Florida Symphony.
A native of Albany, New York, Ms. Savoy
completed her Bachelor and Master of Music degrees in vocal performance at
The Juilliard School, where she studied with Marlena Malas, and has been
featured in master classes with Renée Fleming, Natalie Dessay, Stephanie
Blythe, Sir Andrew Davis, Roger Vignoles, Craig Rutenberg, and Edith Wiens.
She currently resides in New York City.
